Tim Lee/Town Hall Meeting Summary

February 16, 2009

Tim Lee’s staff presented a new online system that will let you submit code complaints directly online.  The system is expected to go “live” in approximately two weeks (trying for March 1st).  The public should be able to submit a complaint/concern either with their name or anonymously then be able to track the status.  Their ordinance officers will be able to print the list each day and effective route their inspections.  The officer and enter their information into the laptop mounted in their vehicle and then print out a violation letter (if needed) from their vehicle and leave it at the home.  The system automatically schedules the officer for the follow-up inspection.  The county suggests talking to your neighbor first before submitting a complaint online.

They will eventually be adding other online services (business inspections and business licenses).

Tim Lee showed us an eight page list for sidewalk requests that have met the criteria.  A citizens committee created the criteria.  The biggest problems with the sidewalk projects are there are so many need and limited funding.  Tim Lee’s website has a list of sidewalk improvements that is continually updated:

http://www.cobbcountyga.gov/boc/district_3.htm

They are handled through the Cobb County Department of Transportation:

There is a bike/pedestrian survey at:

http://www.cobbdot.org/

Voters approved addition of parks in the county.  They have received over 310 nominations from residents for possible park locations.  The Commissioners have appointed a citizens committee to set criteria to be used to evaluate the nominations.

Tim Lee suggested using the PENS website, which we already have a link to on our website.  He talked about ways of protecting our personal property in our vehicles.  Precinct 4 has actually had a decrease in property and car crimes.

Tim Lee and his staff discussed the requirement for all pools to be retrofitted to the new codes.

There will be a document shredding day on April 18th at the East Cobb Senior Center, free to Cobb County residents.

He also discussed ordinance of number of unrelated people living in homes.  It goes by the square footage.  It states one adult per 390 square feet with no more than two unrelated people.

There will not be any home reassessments this year.  They are keeping up with the appeals their office receives.

Their department will cut their budget spending by 5%, but will not have to cut services.
